By now you should already know that we’re headed to Yorkdale for our new project, The Yorkdale. Cue applause and cheer.
Yes, we’re going north of Bloor because believe it or not, there’s still plenty of fun to be had outside of our little Toronto downtown core. Besides some of the best shopping in the city (sorry Bloor St., you’re fine and all until it starts to snow), there’s also plenty of amenities in and around the Yorkdale ‘hood including Downsview Park!
We like Downsview Park all year-long because there’s something to do almost all the time, and it’s known for its awesome sporting and entertainment venues. There’s music concerts, cultural festivals, sporting events, summer camps, tournaments and more.
Quick history lesson because you know we love our history: Downsview Park used to be a former military base. It’s about 572 acres of land, with more than half now being used for parks, commercial buildings, and community services.
Some events coming up this summer include Downsview Park Nature Connection (June 22) which is a free nature program for the family and perfect to kick off the summer, Canada Day Fireworks (July 1) starting at 10 PM, Veld Music Festival (August 2-3) featuring Calvin Harris, Rastafest 2014 (August 23) which is a celebration of the Rastafarian lifestyle and history, and Riot Fest Toronto 2014 (September 6-7).
You can also register for sporting leagues, like volleyball and soccer, which are held in The Hangar, one of the facilities of the Downsview Park Sports Centre. Bonus: Downsview Park is also home to the Toronto FC Academy and Training Facility which is where the team trains.
For serious, there’s much to do at Downsview Park that we couldn’t possibly list it all here. Check out their website and pay them a visit. They’d love to have you.
