Are you busy on May 24th or 25th? If yes, cancel your plans – we’ve got the perfect event for you to go to: Doors Open Toronto! One of our favourite events of the year is back, and with about 40 new buildings, including University of Toronto’s Knox College, and the Cornell Campbell House.
Library District’s neighbours, the Fort York Armoury and the Fort York National Historic Site will also be opening their doors.
Anyway, the theme for this year’s Doors Open Toronto is Secrets and Spirits … Exploring the Mysteries Behind the Door, which means ghosts. No really, people will have access to spaces previously unseen, an underground church bowling alley, a hidden tomb (yes, in TORONTO), and haunted tunnels.
There’s also going to be an exciting speakers series, walking tours, including the Haunted Walk of Tour to coincide with the theme, and some other special programs.
On Saturday, May 24th the Fort York Blue Barracks & Mess will host a talk entitled “Redesigning Toronto” at 2 PM (we’ll wait for you to put this in your iCal).
Moderated by the wonderful Author and Journalist Shawn Micallef, the talk will touch on a bunch of topics that will affect the future urban and architectural planning of Toronto. The talk will feature only the best of the best architects in Toronto.
Some other buildings we’re interested in checking out include the Bridgepoint Active Healthcare (AKA the old Don Jail), Artscape Youngplace, and the Mackenzie House (supposedly haunted).
