Is there anything better than curling up with your favourite blanket, a warm beverage, and a great book? We think not. Now that the leaves are changing colour and you can buy anything in pumpkin spice flavour, we’re excited to curl up with some great reads.
Here are the books that we think you’ll fall (yes, we said it) for:
Bream Gives Me Hiccups by Jesse Eisenberg
Yes, the actor who played Mark Zuckerberg wrote a book. If you’ve ever read one of his pieces in McSweeney’s, you can count on this book being just as funny as he is in his interviews. If you want a laugh and enjoy short stories, this one is for you.
Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
If you read her first book, Why is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? then this one is a given. In the genre of funny ladies (see also: Bossypants by Tina Fey or Yes Please by Amy Poehler), Mindy Kaling has already solidified her spot as a great comedy writer. You won’t want to miss out on this.
Undermajordomo Minor by Patrick DeWitt
Moving away from the laughs, this book is an adventurous Western with a Cohen Brothers feel to it. It was also long listed for the Giller Prize this year so you know that it’s a good one!
The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood
A classic Canadian author with so many great works already under her belt. She’s gone back to putting a focus on human relationships with this book as a couple becomes part of a society where they live a life of luxury for half of the year and then the life of an inmate in the other half. Would you live like this? Read the book and then decide.
The Song Machine: Inside the Hit Factory by John Seabrook
With this book, prepare to get analytical about music. Ever wonder about those songs that get stuck in your head for hours on end? Learn about what it is that makes them so catchy and what exactly makes up a hit song. So interesting!
