We’re big advocates of libraries, so when we heard about about Toronto’s Little Free Libraries, we just knew that we had to share it with you!

The smell of freshly baked goods is sure to lure you down to the lower level of St. Lawrence Market where Stone Mill Bakehouse is located.

Did you know that before 1883, there was no public library system in Toronto, or anywhere else in Canada? Fast forward 129 years later and Toronto now has 99 of them! In addition, the city’s 100th public library will be connected to Library District Condominiums. It’s quite a milestone and the city’s public library system has certainly come a long way since 1883. Let’s take a look back at the history of Toronto’s first library.

Toronto's first public library in 1884. It was previously known as the Toronto Mechanics' Institute

Ah summer’s in the air! Sun, surf, cocktails and tallboys, BBQ’s and picnics. These are just some of the things that we love about summer. We also enjoy heading out to the park on a nice hot day to enjoy all of the above.

Because we go to the park quite a lot during the summer, we took the liberty of compiling a list of some our favourite parks in the city for you to enjoy during the dog days of summer.

Despite rumors of extinction, public libraries are still going strong. According to the most recent report from the Canadian Urban Libraries Council, library usage across the country is up 45 % over the past decade, from 16.6 to 24.1 transactions on average.

What defines a world class city? Some of the things we can think of include: architecture, nightlife, art and culture, infrastructure and transit. We also believe that public spaces should be right at the top of that list.

Stopping by Olympic Cheese is a must whenever you’re at St.Lawrence Market. It’s literally a cheese lover’s heaven! The store boasts 1,000 specialty items, and more than 600 kinds of cheese!

Toronto’s art scene is thriving and we recently got a chance to see just how thriving it is at the Walnut Studios Spring Fever Art Show and Sale.

Tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood behind King and Niagara, Walnut Studios is an artist’s playground. The studio is housed in an old converted warehouse and is home to more than 40 talented established and up and coming artists. Members of the public got an opportunity to enter the artists world and experience the creative process when the studio opened it’s doors last weekend at it’s Spring Art Show and Sale.

St. Lawrence Market is hands down the best food market in the world! We’re not just saying that because Market Wharf just happens to be right next door, but because National Geographic says so! Every now and then, we’ll be sharing some our favourite spots from the market with you. Last time we featured Ponesse foods and this week, we discovered Wine Country Merchants which has the best selection of wines for any occasion.

We’ve kept a tight lid on all things Library District related over the past few months. But that lid comes off today. You see, we wanted to make sure that everything is perfect before we revealed anything to you. And perfect it is! So without wasting anymore time, let’s get straight to business.
