THE PROJECT

501 Adelaide Street East is a 180-unit Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) affordable family housing rental building. Developed and constructed by Context, the building was designed to use over 25% less energy than the Model National Energy Code Building, and would be the equivalent of a LEED Silver building. A strategic decision not to pursue LEED certification was made by TCHC on the project, but energy saving and green measures in the project range from rainwater harvesting to the use of energy saving heat recovery ventilators, and wastewater heat recovery coils.
